TWO RIVERS – The fifth annual Aurora Health Care Two Rivers 10-Mile Run, 3-Person Relay and 2-Mile Run/Walk is set for Sunday.
Last year’s event drew over 300 runners, and race organizers are anticipating another new participation record this year.
“Our registrations are up roughly 15 percent from last year, and with sunny and seasonable weather forecast for race morning, we anticipate another record breaking year,” said Scott Jansky, race director and physical education teacher at Two Rivers High School.
Event proceeds benefit Two Rivers High School Athletic and Band Boosters.
“The continued growth of the event is certainly helping our fundraising efforts, and this year we are including another school program (TRHS Band Boosters) as part of those efforts.” Jansky said. “To show their appreciation, the TRHS Band will be out on the course performing and providing some additional motivation for race participants.”
Several elite runners will once again be making the trip to Two Rivers to compete for a $950 prize purse.
For the men, John Dewitt will be making his second TR 10-Mile appearance after setting the course record in 2015.
Daniel Peters will also be making his second appearance, taking third amongst a strong 2015 field.
Alexander Rink is a former Kimberly standout who most recently won the overall title at the Madison Half-Marathon in 1:11:37.
For the men’s masters, Matt Thull will be returning after placing second overall in 2013 and third overall in 2014.
For the women, all four past Two Rivers 10-Mile champions will be returning.
Caitlin Comfort will be making her second trip to the event after setting a new course record in 2015.
Also back is 2016 winner Laura Schmitz, along with Jenny Zwagerman (2014) and Manitowoc Lutheran cross country coach Abbey Bubolz, who won in 2013.
Local Suzy Stanley (Two Rivers), who won the Master’s Division last year, is also returning on the women’s side.
“Our race is fortunate to have so many accomplished runners joining and returning to our race,” Jansky said. “They certainly add to the excitement of race weekend.”
Runners and walkers can still register on Saturday night from 4-7 p.m. and on Sunday morning from 6:15-7:30 a.m. All race information can be found at Tworivers10mile.com.
